Shipston On Stour: Gateway to the Cotswolds

Right on the boundary of south Warwickshire and the Cotswolds, Shipston-on-Stour is a traditional market town next to the river Stour. Once a centre for the sheep industry, the town is a combination of Georgian architecture, medieval alleys and the ancient bridge over the river stour all combine to make Shipson-on-Stour a place to stop, just as the coaches did centuries ago on their route from Oxford to Birmingham. 

Shipston-on-Stour Cycling Routes

• National Cycle Route 48 runs from Tetbury and Cirencester to Northleach, Moreton-in-Marsh, and Southam. Explore sections between Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour and then Shipston-on-Stour to Southam on Warwickshire Council maps 
• National Cycle Route 5 passes directly through the heart of Shipston en route to Stratford-upon-Avon and eventually as far as Holyhead in North Wales.
• National Cycle Route Cotswold Line is a shorter section that connects with National Cycle Route 5 between Honeybourne and Hanborough and showcases the beautiful Cotswold scenery at its best. The route travels past Shipston to the south (although still within easy reach), and links interesting villages and sites within the rolling landscape of the Cotswolds.
